In January of 1994, the late Thomas A. Farrell, technology consultant and writer, and his colleague Bob Maxwell, went to Borders Book Store and Cafe in Dallas during the shooting of just one of a series of documentaries the two put together in the early 1990s. I was present for some of these shoots. My uncle Tom was then almost 80, and Bob closing on 70. The two were an amusing pair, friends since they met working for Collins (in the days before it became Rockwell-Collins) and liked to visit Dallas restaurants with the camera (a Sony Hi-8mm) and bring along other friends and relatives for a sort of McLaughlin Group on location. Topics almost always centered on food, drink, political issues of the day—and language, one of my late uncle's favorite subjects. Bob Maxwell did almost all of the shooting and editing.
